Competition city hall

Two fields formed by the right-angled street network in Mannheim city centre at the intersection of Planken and Kurpfalzstraße were available for construction. The design was based on the assumption that this street network, which is characteristic of the city centre of Mannheim, should not be disturbed. As a result, the building volume is divided into two parts, corresponding to the two building plots: the actual town hall with office tower, council chamber building and clock tower as the focal point of the complex on the south-western plot and a second area with pavilions for exhibitions and shops, for the council wine bar and a café on the north-eastern plot. An underground car park was planned for parking spaces.
