Administration building Gustav Müller steelworks

The building was erected for the management and design offices of a steel construction plant and, together with the gatehouse and a large gateway, forms the entrance to the factory premises. The design of the office building - a steel construction - was determined by the need for variably divisible office space and - in view of the climate in the Rhine valley - effective sun protection. The office areas are accessed via an internal core that accommodates the staircase, lift and ancillary rooms. Individual work areas can be separated from each other by half-storey-high, movable sound-absorbing walls. On the one hand, the perimeters - which also make it easy to clean the windows, some of which are fixed - provide protection from the sun, and on the other hand, mechanically operated louvre blinds. The perimeters are set back from the façade by around 16 centimetres so that heated air can escape and heat build-up is prevented. The colours of the building are black, white and grey.
